Adventure Overview

Come join fellow makers (from farmers, to cacao fermenters, to chefs), as well as the staff of Zorzal Cacao, for Chocolate Week in the Dominican Republic!
We’ll enjoy the best that the Dominican Republic has to offer, from the beaches, to mountains, nature, and of course, cacao, lots of cacao. We’ll start our journey in San Francisco de Macoris, a bustling, relatively prosperous city surrounded by cacao and rice fields in the heart of the Valle del Cibao. From there we will visit well known centralized fermentaries before visiting Reserva Zorzal and heading to Cabarete, the adventure-sports capital of the country—and close to the best beaches in the country.

On this trip, you will:

  • Gain hand-on experience across the full cacao supply chain – learn how cacao is grown, harvested, and fermented
  • Tour Reserva Zorzal, a 1,019 acre protected forest and sustainable cacao farm and get your hands dirty
  • Spend time in the bird sanctuary at Reserva Zorzal with the Bicknell’s Thrush
  • Learn how sustainable farming can lend itself to a thriving ecosystem and healthy economy
  • Hike in the surrounding rainforests and swim along the coasts
  • Make and taste fresh chocolate right on the farm
